Last April, I flew from Paris to Milan during the time of the most important design art fair in the world, “Milano Salone”, an important fair that was launched in 1961 and hosted almost 3,000 exhibitors this year including big companies and young designers.
In general, Milan is well-known all over the world for the fashion and design week. But for me, the most important thing about Milan is the fact that it is the home town of the Italian street artist, though a Brazilian soul, Never 2501.
Milan is also a city responsible to mark a watershed in my personal life.
First time I went to Milan in 2008, I was expelled from the Duomo, because I was wearing a skirt considered inappropriate for a church. It was my first time in Europe and even with this weird event I still felt happy in the town while taking pictures beside the famous LOVE sculpture by the American artist Robert Indiana. In fact, I was in love at that time.
Last year, my love inspiration from Milan was broken up, ironically by Milan, a moment that caused me so much pain, when my “loved” one left me in Paris alone and went to Milan.
The reason I traveled to Milan recently wasn’t to appreciate any designer works, but to decide my future with my “love”, that finally came to an end. Again, Milan had such a representative significance in my life that changed my future forever.
Art in all sense made me strong to support my heart burst, in fact well designed objects helped me in a superficial way. But street-art and Italian people were what really warmed my soul and saved my life during that harsh weekend.
On that sunny Saturday afternoon, beginning of the European Spring time, I came to meet Never 2501. He told me in advance that he was painting a wall at Fabrica del Vapor, a cultural place devoted to youth cultural production. By the time I met him, he was taking a break and he invited me to enjoy his friends in a beautiful terrace on Porta Genova.
I was enchanted by how I was welcomed by the warm and lovely Italian people, surrounded by the energy of an agitated street (due to the design week), fresh drinks, good talk and a beautiful sunset to be watched.
2501 is an artist with many possibilities, who believes in the constant transformation and evolution of his work.
His name, 2501, is the date of his birthday, that coincidently is also the anniversary of Sao Paulo city. He presents a very sophisticated work on canvas, but also with the rawness of the spray. Nowadays, his style is based on geometric and abstract lines that can allow people to make many possible interpretations.
In Sao Paulo last March, I got the chance to see Never 2501 working on the front wall of the Gallery Tag & Juice, who represents Never in his second hometown.
In Milan, I could watch Never spraying his perfect lines on the wall at Fabrica del Vapor on that Saturday night, after his pause time to relax with friends.
Thank you, Universe, for fulfilling my heart with warm people.
Thank you, Never 2501, my almost fellow citizen, for allowing me to see your hands sliding in perfect harmony with a spray can.
Definitely, In Milan street-art saved my life! ” VIVA L’ ART”
Next May 24, Never 2501 will open his new solo show, “See you on the other side”, at Soze Gallery in Los Angeles, USA. “A minimal aesthetic of the monotone use of color exhibition where Never questions the deeper meaning of a propensity toward abstraction and toward infinity”.
